Positively glowing
The feedbadk from BASELWORLD has been impressive. A unanimous vote of approval for the return of Hall 6 to basel by both exihibitors and visitors ,plus reports of excellent business at the show indicate a return of confidence to the industry.
Coupled with the positive results from jewellery and luxury goods retailers for Valentine’s day and the first quarter,which are up on last year ,sometimes by large double-digit numbers(see news,page 21),analysts predict an upbeat 2004 getting even better into 2005.
The confidence was reflected in interesting new ideas and collections at BASEL-WORLD;the jewellery world has absorbed influences from other design areas and had its eye on the bigger luxury and fashion picture. We have devoted this issue to bringing you the best jewellery designs at the show as well as in-depth reviews of different sectors such as pearls ,gemstones and diamonds.
So what were the trends? The strongest one was for feminine ,colourful jewellery with flowers ,butterflies and nature references keeping the designs in touch with fashion.other top trends include: a greater emphasis on pearls ,other large ,baroque and softly-coloured;yellow as the year’s hot diamond colour although most exhibitors reported that white gold and diamonds are still best-sellers;a focus on creating design classics such as Golay’s new Louis Golay collection designed by industrial designer Karim Rashid;cosmic influences;and a colour palette ranging from tropical to white.
Design directions reflected the diversity of fashion looks that also co-esist.There’s retro-elegance and boho; fantasy r omantic jewellery and black and and white art deco-inspired designs;and references to culture from rhe Orient to India by way of Brazil.
And there’s lots more on the way judging by the whispers about upcoming projects and collaborations on new developments that will come to fruition by the end of this year.the excitement is back so watch this space as we keep you abreast of the news in future issues.

什么是潮流?最明显的是就是为女性服务,华美的珠宝配上花,蝴蝶和一些自然的东西,使款式和另外的时尚潮流接轨。其余的顶级时尚潮流包括:对珍珠的重视,大的、形式怪异具有柔软色彩的。黄色是今年钻石产品的主要颜色,虽然大部分参展商反应白金和钻石是卖的最好的。
设计的方向反应了时尚的多样性,但它们是能共存的。
